I've been checking this forum and find no mention of it.
Has it been cancelled for 2015? Thanks. |

Valerie , I would love to see a 2015 challenge. I admit I didn't read many from this year's challenge, but I would love to try again next year! Janet E. |

Valerie, I see that there has been no comment here. I have a thought. I'm ok with reusing the 2014 challenge categories for 2015 if you are game. In truth, I do the challenges and don't much participate in the discussions, so things might be rather low key, but we could at least work our way through a challenge. Are you interested? Janet E |

Hi Janet, That's an idea. I'll take a look at the 2014 challenge. I'm not much of a talker, either, so it may just be two lists, but that's ok! Be right back. Back now, I don't think I could come up with more than 3 or 4 titles that I really want to read for the 2014 challenge categories. The 2013 History Non Fiction Challenge ***List Thread*** seems to allow for more options. But, I'm easy, can go either way. Valerie

Hi Valerie, I just looked at the 2013 History non fiction challenge and I could definitely be on board with it but suggest that number 5 be expanded to Include environmental history and tha we add a 13th category as a wild card or reader's choice. Would also like to replace one of the categories with "read a historical work that you wanted to read in a previous challenge but didn't get around to it." Could we make that switch at our own discretion? what do you think? J |

Sounds good, Janet. |

Yes, what categories shall we read in 2015? |

I like all the suggestions. |

How about changing the 2015 challenge topics to below revised with the suggestions given above. Full challenge is ten reads while a mini challenge is five. Any more suggestions? 1. Local History: Read a non-fiction book dealing with the history of your area (city, state, region): 2. Award Winning: Read a non-fiction history book that has won any award: 3. Over There: Read a non-fiction book dealing with (any war, battle, etc.): 4. Uncle Sam: Read a non-fiction book dealing with America's political history (could be government, biography, local etc) 5. Natural or Environmental Disaster: 6. Life and Times (Biography): 7. Sports or other physical activity including personal (hiking, etc.) olympics, professional, college, etc.: 8. To Sea: Read a non-fiction book dealing with water (navy, local lore, regional, etc): 9. Pride and Prejudice: Read a non-fiction dealing with minorities: 10. Newby: Read a non-fiction book by a new to you author: 11: Charity: Read a non-fiction book dealing with humanitarian events (for an idea is a good linkhttp://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/humanitarian): 12: The World At Large: Read a non-fiction book that takes place in a country other than USA, or UK/ 13. Wild card (your nonfiction choice) Substitutions: Read any two non-fiction books of your choice to replace two of the categories above. Simply list the category, say substitution and give the book title and author. The Rules of the Challenge: 1. Pick either 6 categories for a lite challenge or 12 for the full challenge and enter titles as you choose them. 2. Books can be chosen and/or changed at any time through out the year 3. In order to mark the books completed, you have to have finished the book anytime between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015 so anything you have read from Jan. 1, 2015 counts. 4. No book can not be used in two categories. However, you may use a book from another challenge if it fits here. Like in Goodreads, cross posting is encouraged for this challenge.

Hi, R.E.K., I definitely like the idea of the full challenge being 10 and mini challenge being 5. I might actually complete the mini! I like the categories a lot. My only question has to do with numbers 3 and 7. Not sure how they differ? J |

Yes, Janet, I agree so I changed one as per the suggestion from Charles and broadened it to include personal physical activities such as hiking. Rather than reprint the entire list I just changed the one above. Any other ideas or suggestions? This is your challenge. If I don't hear from anyone by Dec. 20 I'll post the list above for the challenge. OK? Last Edited on: 12/10/14 2:42 PM ET - Total times edited: 2 |
