This charming book is the story of a Georgian immigrant (from the country of Georgia, not the state). He arrives in New York, dazzled and amazed at the United States of the 1920s. He and his fellow immigrants plunge themselves into this new world with enthusiasm and endless optimism. Through dozens of adventures they manage to navigate this confusing country, and despite being taken advantage of, they never lose their sense of honor, humor or honesty.

Follow George as he travels to Michigan to work on cars, to California to farm, and to Missouri. Braving the Depression and inability to speak English, he nevertheless retains his love of his strange new home.

A joy to read, and sure to choke you up at times, and laugh out loud at others. A classic!

Written in1940. The authors hilarious, thought provoking, and sometimes heart-string tugging account of his acclimitizaion to American life after migrating here from Georgia (the one in Russia).

This is a favorite book at our house. George was a immigrant from the country of Georgia and wrote this story of his adventures in America early in the twentieth century. It is hilarious and touching.
