Another wonderful book from Anna McPartlin, who has quickly become a favourite author of mine! Wise, witty and profound. Love her characterizations -- she makes her characters become people that you know. Her books are also so life-affirming despite the fact that her characters have always suffered profound losses. Can't recommend this author enough!
I LOVED this book! It was a lot like Cecelia Ahern's books, especially McPartlin's other book (its very similar to PS I Love you-that bothered me a tad.) However this book was amazing! Still a similar style but I found each characters story to just be mesmerizing! And some parts were not as cliche as I thought they'd be...5 stars!!
I liked this book until I got near the end. Overall the story is kind of a downer, but I was OK with that. I adore all things Irish, and the characters were interesting and very well written. However, there is an incident(s) revealed near the end of the book that is so disturbing, I still cannot get it out of my mind. I'm sorry to say that I wish I had never read this book.
There are some books you want to give more than a five star rating to. This book was one of those for me. It's also a new author for me, but I'll definitely be reading more of her books. This book started out really slow and I wasn't sure if I'd even finish it, but it picked up after a few chapters and by the time I was halfway through I couldn't put it down.
It's about Mary who has lived in the small Irish town of Kenmare for her entire life and the things that have happened to her.
It's also about Sam a film-star handsome American who has just finished rehab from a heroin addiction who moves into the cottage next door to Mary. He's moved there because it's where his beloved late grandmother grew up.
It's also about Penny, Mary's best friend, and how she doesn't handle the end of a love affair well and turns to alcohol as a replacement.
It's about people in a small town where everyone knows everyone else's business. And it's one of the best books I've read in awhile!!
