Urban Fantasy by Lori Handeland and Book 3 of the Phoenix Chronicles. This book has so much going on that it's difficult to sum up in a few sentences. Liz Phoenix is the leader of The Light, a group trying to prevent Armageddon. Her group is fractured, and its difficult to know who is still with her. Jimmy, her second in command, seems to hate her for things she's done. Unbeknownst to Liz, she has a traitor in her group. This book has alot of action, and it's almost dizzying. In the end, Liz has to make a sacrifice. The book ends with a great cliff-hanger. Really can't wait to see what happens,next. I will say it took me awhile to get reaquainted with all the characters, since its been so long since reading the first and second books. Good read.

Elizabeth Phoenix is called the leader of the light. She is psychic, psychometric, and very powerful. She is also a sexual empath, one who absorbs powers through sex. When a Nephilim, a fallen angel, is nearby Liz usually gets a vision that tells her all about it. Liz is also a vampire; one she keeps controlled by a tight and magical collar.


Liz arrives in Los Angeles to destroy a nest of varcolacs, half human and half dragon creatures. They crave the destruction of the moon and sun and Liz needs to prevent an upcoming eclipse or all is lost.


Jimmy Sanducci is Liz's former lover and her second in command. They love and hate one another passionately. Sawyer is a Navajo Shaman who is also Liz's mentor. She's slept with both of them and absorbed their powers. It will take all three of them working together to defeat the varcolacs. The problem though is Jimmy currently hates Liz and Sawyer may be working the other side. Liz also keeps reaching to her collar to remove it when danger lurks. Whom to trust with your life?


Lori Handeland has penned another fascinating addition to the PHOENIX CHRONICLES. Sexy and gritty, urban fantasy and paranormal readers alike will enjoy it. Handeland's world building is phenomenal and the characters are diverse and complex. Elizabeth Phoenix is a dangerous and exciting heroine that you won't want to miss!

Action packed magical story that is on going. I have had to read them out of order which is difficult, but I love not knowing where the story is going.

I hate to disagree with the other reviewers and usually I like Handeland but this book didn't do anything for me. I suffered through the second in the series and wish I had passed on this one, I almost quit numerous times. I'm going to pass on any other in this series.....that said, the heroine is still angst filled, loving Jimmy but still having sex with most comers, specifically Sawyer...sorry for the pun. The story is scattered but at the same time the plot doesn't move far forward, really this could have been a short story if you take out some of the hate/love Jimmy angst. My suggestion, use your credits don't waste your money.
