First book in a two part series. Wasn't very impressed. It seems that V.C.Andrews books all have about the same plot lines. I feel that the best series ever written was the Cutler series. That is just my opinion but I feel all the other ones are all about the same situations maybe just different family members and different places

I hate to say it but I did not like this book or it's sequel in any way. The plotline is weak and overused. The characters are too uninteresting to even enjoy reading about. The whole book seems rushed and hurried. As a long time fan of V.C. Andrews and even of Andrew Neiderman's older titles written under the VCA name, I felt saddened by this novel. I have to say that because I am such a fan I keep buying these titles. But I think that this series will end up being the last that I purchase until I notice a significant change.

This was a pretty good book, but I'm finding the plots a little easier to figure out now, not as mysterious as they used to be

Love this book. April is a great character. I wish this series had more than two books.

The book was OK. I love the old VC Andrews books. I'd read it again and would like to continue with the series.

This is the story of April. not fitting in to her family life. Coming of age and confused by love. There is a glimmer of hope. You have to read the book to find out.

I did enjoy this and I can't wait to get the next one that is due out in the Fall.

Entertaining read but I think that the relationship should have developed more with Peter Smoke and not ended the way it did.

I really liked this book. It was a little depressing thought. It chronicles a young girls journey through a lot of bad luck.

It was ok, not what I expected from a VC Andrews novel, though. It's about a teenager going through losing one parent to cancer and the other to suicide. Lots of death in this book and also has some lesbian sexual scenes.

"APRIL HAD ALWAYS FELT LIKE AN OUTSIDER. Her older sister Brenda was tall, athletic, competitive, and sure of herself. But April Taylor was short, sensitive, and overweight -- and she couldn't bounce back from their father's cutting criticisms the way Brenda did. April didn't know why their once-loving dad had become a coldhearted monster, but she was sure it had something to do with her. And she could see how his cruel behavior was tearing away at her gentle mother. But a glimmer of happiness returns when Brenda brings home her college roommate: beautiful, bewitching Celia. And April wonders if she might not be so different from Brenda after all.... "
