The first portion of this book is not just engaging, but it also highlights the inspiring transformation in the way the Romans honored their soldiers and troop groups. It all began with tokens and small souvenirs for bravery, a humble start that evolved into the grandeur of triumphs (parades). However, it was soon realized that these triumphs did not leave a lasting impression on the population. This realization led to a significant decision to create monuments or arches to brand the majesty and courage of the Roman army and its leaders in the population's memory.

That part was interesting. However, the author tediously enumerated the arches and triumphs (most of which are long gone) with boring details about the size and depth of these edifices. The photos were the saving grace of this book. Overall score = G+.
