This book is exciting, intense, creepy and fun! I did not want to put it down. It has so many interesting and unique concepts at play. Mackenzie inherits her position as "Keeper" from her grandfather, "Da" at a very young age. She cannot disclose anything about this secret position to anyone, even her parents. The job of the Keeper is to make sure none of the "Histories" that awaken escape from the Archives into the Outer (which is the world we live in). She patrols the boundary between the two worlds (called the Narrows). It is a dangerous job in the best of times, but strange and suspicious things are creating chaos and ramping up the danger. It wraps up well enough but I look forward to the next book hoping it will have more depth into the characters, the secrets and what comes next.
