The beautiful drawings attracted my second-grader. I read him the story and he was dismayed. "This is so sad!" he told me. The book is based on the libretto of an opera Seth wrote. Since I love Seth's other books, I am happy to have this--but it might not really be for children.
i like this book most. i would like to read some other books of vikram seth.
