Fantastic book. There is a reason why it is a classic, even in this age of near-instantaneous transportation.
Fogg is the pillar on which this book hangs. Stoic englishman to the bone, he is the support, the foundation and the calm, implacable driving force.
Passepartout, the french manservant provides the color, the excitement, the wonder to this story and because of him this story is not merely a boring travelogue but an action/adventure story.
Aouda, the Indian widow, provides the veneer of emotion that is completely lacking in Fogg.
All together, these three, along with various other small characters provide an exciting glimpse into the life of the mid 1800's.
