Part of the Valdemar series, Herald Talia on a diplomatic mission.
This was a great end to the trilogy. I loved all 3.
With Elspeth, the heir to the throne of Valdemar, come of marriageable age, Talia, the Queen's Own Herald returns to court to find Queen and heir beset by diplomatic intrigue as various forces vie for control of Elspeth's future. But just as Talia is about to uncover the traitor behind all these intrigues, she is sent on a mission to the neighboring kingdom, chosen by the Queen to investigate the worth of a marriage proposal from Prince Ancar. And to her horror, Talia soon discovers there is far more going on at Prince Ancar's court than just preparation for a hoped-for royal wedding. For a different magic than that of the Heralds is loose in Ancar's realm-an evil and ancient sorcery that may destroy all of Valdemar unless Talia can send warning to her Queen in time!
I picked up this book to complete this trilogy of Valdemar. I found the first two books good reads, but I haven't had a chance to go back and finish this one. Rather than let this get dusty on my shelf while I go through my big To Be Read pile, I thought I'd post it for someone else to enjoy.
The final part in this series. A very good read.
Although there's a major unanswered question throughout the midst of this series (why she can't communicate with her Companion when he has the gift to communicate with any Herald), it's a good trilogy from Mercedes Lackey. The kingdom of Valdemar is a new personal favorite vacation spot. For the sensitive reader, beware of liaisons and slightly looser morals than you usually find in fantasy.
That said, I devoured them. I loved them. Great trilogy.

Oh, this one is the saddest of the three of them... but it is still very good. It certainly is exciting... and really sets up the remainder of the series. I had forgotten some of the details for this one about Ancar and Hardorn so it made it especially fun to re-read!

I loved this book! If you have read any of the other books in her series this one is a must. Not only does it sufficiently wrap up the story-line of Talia, but it also presents problems for the next trilogy. I really like that Lackey does books in a sequence so that there are some correspondences and characters that return and intermingle. It really adds a rich character life to the books.
I love the world Mercedes Lackey has built for her readers!
The story of Talia comes to a head in this book. It's one of my favorites of the series for its fast pace.
I enjoyed the book. It Made me want to read the next series about Valdemar.
Third book in the series.
For what it's worth, this book was given to me as autographed to her by Mercedes Lackey. Lookes like ML's signature (I've seen on other books) - but I make NO guarantees.
