This book serves as an excellent guide to cultivating "practice" in a broad sense. Though Waitzkin's experience is primarily as a chess player and martial arts practitioner, he outlines an approach to achieving excellence that can apply across the board to any art or discipline, be it competitive or not. He demonstrates that ones success hinges not on natural ability or in one's proficiency with a discipline itself, but rather in the tools and approaches one implements in the learning process. I continue to find new applications for the ideas in this book on a daily basis. Especially recommended to anyone with an interested in Zen and Taoist thought. Excellent.
