FROM THE PUBLISHER
A classic that has sold more than 500,000 copies since it was first published in 1973, The Art of Walt Disney has never been revised or updated until now. Seven completely new chapters (fully half the text and illustrations in the book) carry the story forward, chronicling the dramatic resurgence of the company under new management, which has seen the release of the three most successful animated films ever made - Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. This new edition also covers live-action movie production and the growth of the Disney theme parks, with the addition of EPCOT Center, Disney-MGM Studios, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. To prepare this new edition, author Christopher Finch was given unprecedented access to Disney, interviewing scores of individuals, from chairman Michael Eisner and other senior executives to animators and Imagineers, as the artists who design the theme parks are called. The book is profusely illustrated, including concept art, background paintings, and stills from every important animation project, beginning with Mickey's 1928 debut in Steamboat Willie and including works in progress, such as the feature The Hunchback of Notre Dame; production shots and stills from live-action movies; and an enormous variety of views of the theme parks around the world, with close-ups of innovative rides and attractions. Art for the book was carefully selected in consultation with the artists and animators themselves.
