Today, I was thinking I should clean out last year's dead grass and weeds from my asparagus patch since I picked the first asparagus last year on the 11th of April. Barely am I started when I see a new sprout over six inches tall. So I spent the whole day cleaning out my small bed (12x20 feet), and there were already six asparagii  to cut for eating purposes.

As I have probaby posted before, I am unable to think on a global scale, but I am quite certain Arkansas warming has been going on for ten years.

And the bad part is that in four days, I am going with my wife and my sister to Italy for a month, and my wife's sister will get to eat almost all of this year's crop.

I've been planting all my seedlings.  Boy I wish I had an asparagus patch!!  But hopefully  I will have tomatos, peppers, onions, and a bunch of herbs.

Right about where I will spend most of my time (N.E. Italy; Frulia, the Veneto) a particular kind of asparagus that it white is in season and available everywhere. I know it is available in early May. I just hope it is already ripe.

Wife wants to see a garden in Verona that we missed the last time we were there. Thanks to the U.S. Army I lived in the area once for three years, and can't think of very much that will be in bloom, but we are definitely going to take this particular garden in.

Just came in from checking asparagus bed. I have 10 spears pushing through. I will wait until Saturday to cut them. What a surprise to see them. We had a good rain on Sunday and that must have been enough get them growing.  I am in northern Los Angeles County, California, at 3500 ft.

Lucky you, Margaret!  I bought my asparagus this week, as usual.

I plan to be in this house a while, maybe I can find a spot to try.  I know it takes three years to get a yield, I would need to be very patient.
