Another of Smith's nailbiters that are hard to put down.. Istarted it to distract myself from surgical pain and just could not put it down.

Typical Wilbur Smith tale, and I believe his last. Leon Courtney gains fame as a safari guide after working with an expedition led by former President Teddy Roosevelt. He later works with British forces as an intelligence officer monitoring pro-German factions in Africa at the start of WWI. Familiar formula of adventure, romance, intrigue, and all things African, but an enjoyable, fast read.

Nothing more than a treatise on the senseless slaughter of animals. If you're a hunter, you'll love it but if you're an animal lover, it's a turnoff.

What a great story, this is a book I couldn't put down.

I have read most of what Wilbur Smith has written and I would rate as one of his lesser works.

Smith's high-energy adventures usually grab me right away, but I couldn't get into this one, set in Post-WWI Africa.
