A classic Dirk Pitt adventure novel. This adventure begins in 1858 with the discovery of an anchient ship wreck by an Antartics whaler, makes a stop in Colorado, and concludes in 2001 with Dirk, as usual saving the day. The threat of Armageddon and Nazi's are also present in the story.

any fan of Clive Cussler will know that this is another good book. The idea of the lost city of Atlantis being found is a premise that other authors have tried to do but not with Cusslers expertize about the oceans.

A nifty little Dirk Pitt thriller. As with most of Cussler's stories, the science and archeology can be a little iffy, but that plot and action are good old school adventure.

When mysterious black obsidian skulls and other artifacts of an exceedingly ancient culture begin to turn up in odd places, Pitt jumps in with both feet. It soon becomes dangerously apparent that a powerful, amoral group of fanatics calling itself the Fourth Empire wants the strange discoveries to remain underground. Pitt teams up with a beautiful red-haired expert in ancient languages to decipher the meaning of the artifacts. They were made 10 millennia ago in a then-temperate Antarctica by a seafaring civilization advanced enough to predict its own destruction by a comet impact. Now the Fourth Empire (whose literal and figurative progenitor comes as no surprise) is predicting a similar disaster in only a matter of months, and preparing to take control of the earth.

Dirk Pitt is the rarest of individuals without whom the world could not survive. He is a man of swift, decisive action who lives by his honor, forever standing watch on the front lines in the enduring war between good & evil. As the son of a U.S. Sen, grad. of the Air Force Acad. & special projects director for the U.S. National Underwater & Marine Agency, his courage & cool under fire are matched only by his forceful nature & ferocious determination to do whatever is necessary. Pitt reports directly to Admiral Sandecker, the cunning commander of NUMA, & is backed up by the tough, streetwise Al--a childhood friend & partner in undersea adventure for over 20 yrs.

Another Dirk Pitt novel from Cussler. If you're a Dirk Pitt fan, this holds a surprise by the author near the end, so you must check it out. Very intriguing, at least for me who has always believed a bit in Atlantis.

This is a BIG book and the story is very interesting. The author has a wonderful imagination and seems to be able to create his books with enough historical fact that the fiction parts almost seem real too. I have read and enjoyed other books of Clive Cussler. They seem to be Historical Facts with a hero of the James Bond type. I recommend this book to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Another Cussler with Dirk Pitt winner.
All Clive Cussler books are great. But this one was a fast read and exciting.
Lots of action, easy to follow; did not care for the evolutionary theme.
Great book by Clive. As always, a little on the outrageous side in terms of believability, but a great storyline. This book will hook you and pull strongly.
As the story begins, artifacts from a previously undiscovered civilization, ancient but highly advanced, are popping up all over the globe. Pitt himself is on site in a Colorado mine when archeologists come across strange carvings and mysterious inscriptions. But then an explosion traps the party below ground, and a band of black-suited terrorists arrive at the scene with guns blazing. Though Pitt saves the day, the incident points toward a wider network of evil schemes. Working for the National Underwater & Marine Agency, Pitt finally identifies the terrorists as members of the Fourth Empire, an organization headed by the diabolical Wolf family, a secret clan of genetically engineered people who worship the Nazi Third Reich. But it's only after Pitt and his able sidekick, Al Giordino, battle old German U-boats, dodge surface-to-air missiles and narrowly escape death on a remote island off Australia that they find out what the Fourth Empire is up to. The neo-Nazis aim to prevent the world from discovering the artifacts of this previously unknown seafaring culture because they tell of a catastrophic event that wiped out civilization 9000 years ago and reveal when the next cataclysm will hit. The Wolfs plan to accelerate the date through their own scheme to destroy Earth, meanwhile sheltering themselves and their thousands of followers on enormous, disaster-proof ships. Pitt knows his assignment: save the world--a tall order, but one he's filled many times before. Cussler's 15th Pitt adventure (after Flood Tide) is a rampaging story of history, technology and heroism, written with Cussler's typical make-no-apologies enthusiasm.
Dirk and Al save the day again! And this time it's the whole planet! Wow! I still can't figure out who that "cussler" guy is that shows up all the time....
