Massively disappointing. I have two mild autoimmune conditions and was hoping for some tips to get off medication and avoid flareups. Unfortunately, though, I believed less and less of what the author wrote as I read on.
This book, although written by an MD, seemed very unscientific to me. The book is written with Messianic fervor, sweeping generalizations and extreme remedies.
1)She believes 90% of people suffer from autoimmune conditions.
2)With very little specific evidence, she traces health problems people are having now to things that happened to them 40, 50 years ago, when they were born or were growing up.
3)She believes a host of foods that have been part of healthy diets for decades (or millennia) are toxic and need to be totally rejected - by almost everyone. ("No matter how healthy you feel, I never want you eating gluten or dairy again.") There are almost no foods left when you subtract everything she says you need to avoid forever!
4)Contrary to the principles of functional medicine, which hold that you need to investigate an individual's specific body chemistry, history and symptoms, in the book she prescribes the same sweeping and extreme measures for everybody, regardless of what they are experiencing (or not).
All in all, I found her reasoning (such as it was) quite unconvincing. Too bad.
