"Some loves take months or years to blossom. But some blow in like a storm over the sea, so fast and furious and wonderful it about bowls you over."
- Autumn by the Sea by Melissa Tagg
For years, I've heard rave reviews for Melissa Tagg's novels and now I can add my own praise! Autumn by the Sea was my first, but definitely not my last, book by this talented Midwestern author.
This first book in a new series is set in Muir Harbor, a tiny seaside town in Maine. Family matriarch Maggie Muir created her family through adoption on a blueberry farm, but she continually searches for the granddaughter who's been absent for decades. Could Sydney Rose, a young woman living in Chicago, be the missing piece of Maggie's family?
Autumn by the Sea blends a mystery, a romance, and characters searching for belonging and wraps it all in this beautiful cover - the author's artist sister hand-lettered the title.
The characters are interesting and well-formed, and I appreciated the strong sense of place. The elements of the characters' Christian faith are organically woven into the plot, and the writing is outstanding. I'm eager to spend more time in Muir Harbor while reading A Seaside Wonder, the second book in this series, which published in October 2022.
