The book is a bit slow moving on the Arthur legend, but towards the middle it starts to pick up. If you don't know much about King Arthur, don't worry you'll be fine, as this book tweaks the legend a bit, as things do not go according to plan.
But basically this book focuses on what the Order of the Bear believe, that Arthur will come back one day to save the world fraom darkness. But apparently Arthur has been coming back every year, he just keeps getting killed (bummer huh?). Ellie gets wrapped up in it all and has to find a way to either change things for the better or get it all back to the way it should be.
A very interesting read. And a good read for the summer as this book focuses on floating in your pool (for the first chapter Ellie talks about how she loves to float in her pool)

Elaine has just moved to Annapolis while her professor parents are on sabbatical. In the first few days she meets Will while running in the park, and feels an instant connection. Later she notices a lot of similarities between Will and his friends and the story of King Arthur and the knights of the roundtable. Elaine seems to fit in as the reincarnation of the lady of Shallot. This was a very enjoyable contemporary twist to King Arthur; things move very quickly as Elaine has to move fast to find out what is going on and to prevent tragedy. Quite gripping and worth reading. Probably my favorite Meg Cabot book.

Quite a unique and different take on the Arthurian legends. Makes me want to learn more about it. Written on a teen level, but entertaining to adults as well.

VERY good book! Kept me in suspence the whole time I read it, which was in two days. Nice love story. I love how it all ties in with the story of King Arthur! Really good read, lots of fun.
A really interesting spin on an old legend! Meg Cabot delivers another great book with likable characters and an intriguing plot.
Everyone has more or less heard of the legend of King Arthur. For Ellie Harrison, however, she practically LIVES surrounded by it. Both her parents are professors of the medieval ages, and have taken a year off from their jobs to write books about their shared passion. That means that for Ellie's junior year of high school, she's moving from Minnesota to Annapolis, Maryland, mere miles away from the Naval Academy. Ellie's last days of summer are spent floating in her backyard pool and running in the nearby park...and that is where she runs into Will.
A. William Wagner is the high school's star quarterback, valedictorian, class president, and overall well-respected good guy. The day Ellie runs into Will at the park, they smile at each other like they have seen each other before...only Ellie is sure that she's never met him before in her life (she would've definitely remembered otherwise). Much to her surprise, Will ends up showing up at her poolside after the first day of school and hanging out with her.
Of course, Ellie knows that nothing can after happen between her and Golden Boy. After all, he has a girlfriend, the beautiful, blond cheerleader Jennifer. Ellie's just the friend who can make him laugh, that's all.
However, there seems to be something strange going on at Avalon High, things that are strangely coincidental to what happened to King Arthur all those centuries ago. It can't be that Will is the reincarnation of Arthur and that his life is in danger...could it?
And what part does Ellie play in saving the life of the man she loves?
AVALON HIGH is a perfect combination of humor, romance, and suspense. It had been on the edge of my seat as I breathlessly rushed to the finish in order to know what happens...and this is the second time I've read it.

Fairly predictable connections/parts of plot if you've read modern-day-Avalon stories before, but still entertaining and does not slow too much at any one point.

Meg Cabot has taken the legend of Arthur and the main people in his lives--Merlin, the magician and guardian of young Arthur; the Lady of the Lake, who gave Arthur his magical sword, Excalibur; Guinevere, Arthur's wife and Queen; his most esteemed knight, Sir Lancelot; Mordred, Arthur's half-brother; and the elusive Elaine of Astolat, the Lady of Shalott--and found them modern-day counterparts within the halls of Avalon High School just outside of Washington, D.C.
Ellie Harrison isn't thrilled with leaving St. Paul, Minnesota, and moving to a new state, and starting a new school, while her parents are on sabbatical. Both her mom and dad are medievalists and Professors, and her father has dragged the family closer to D.C., where he can study up-close-and-personal the sword he's researching.
And then Ellie meets Will, the most interesting and good-looking boy she's ever seen. Sure, he has a girlfriend, the very lovely Jennifer, so she resigns herself to just being his friend. But as time goes on, Ellie realizes that there are some very strange similarities between life at Avalon High and the legend of King Arthur. The events that unfold, such as one of the teachers, Mr. Morton, going a little batty, and Will's girlfriend, Jennifer, being secretly in love with his best friend, Lance, start to add up to one bizarre scenario--could Will be the reincarnation of King Arthur, and could something really bad be working its way towards the halls of Avalon High?
I truly enjoyed AVALON HIGH, but Ms. Cabot's customary humor was strangely missing from the story. Although there are a few slightly humorous spots in the book, the laugh-out-loud wit and sarcasm from her previous releases is strangely absent. Overall, though, lovers of Athurian history or books about good versus evil will thoroughly enjoy this latest release.
