He'd proposed--a marriage of convenience! Dr Rijk vanTaak ter Wijsma hadn't gone down on bended knee, nor had there been much fireworks when he'd kissed her cheek, but then, Sohie had decided long ago that romance wasn't for her. She'd experienced the bitterness of a love gone wrong and was now quite content to consider a comfortable relationship.

I'm just discovering Betty Neels. All her books are enjoyable but some are really good. I like a romance that is romance and not lust and sex. In general you can tell her characters love each other because they want what's best for the other person.
So far I've found 2 that I won't be parting with -- When Two Paths Meet and The Awakened Heart. Yes, they are the typical rich Dutch doctor and English nurse, but the characters are very rich.
In The Awakened Heart, Dr. Rijk van Takk ter Wijsma rushes Sophie into a marriage of convenience. The reader is in no doubt that he loves her, it is shown in everything he does, it's just a matter of waiting for Sophie to figure things out so they can live happily ever after.

The romance market is saturated with books that are all sex and fireworks. If that is what you are looking for, I suggest you skip this one. In this book, it is a meandering into emotion, not a headrush into a pile of silk sheets, that endears you to the characters.
