Had I known this was Christian fiction I wouldn't have bought it. It would have been a mistake, as this is a lovely book. There isn't Christian content, and the religious content relates strongly to the story and isn't intrusive or overdone. Another reminder that you can't judge a book by it's cover!

This book is a story with a deeper spiritual meaning. It is about Aurora, a woman struggling with agoraphobia and panic attacks. She cared for her ailing mother without leaving their Manhattan apartment for 10 years. Her mother dies and with the help of a "geekie" young man in the neighboring apartment Aurora searches for information about her famous father who she's never met.

This is a wonderful tale of a young woman caught by agorophobia & having to care for her ill mother for 10 years. Her life has existed only in the 'truths' that her mother has given her until a new neighbor moves in & challenges those "truths" as well as encouraging her to get some help with her agorophobia. His challenges hurt her but cause her to begin to really think for herself. Plus a series of "nightmares" begin to reveal to her the truth around her that she has denied for so long. I highly recommend this book. Angela Hunt does an excellent job of telling a story on 2 levels while allowing the reader to really feel what the main character is experiencing.

It is a story of one's fear of realistic nightmares. Though they give her insight to things that may have taken place in the past. Through a new friendship with a neighbor, she begins a new journey in her life. A unexpected and crafty read. Definetly will keep you reading.

I have never read an Angela Hunt book that wasn't excellent. The Awakening is no exception. I could feel the fears of the main character, and sense her desperation. Then I could rejoice in her hope. Great, great story.

An intriguing novel of a woman who must revaluate everything she has believed about herself after the mother she has been caring for dies and she is left alone in a Manhattan apartment she has not left for years.
I liked this book but it didn't draw me in like the author's other books;The Debt and The Note. I know it was loosely based on the fairy tale characters from sleeping beauty but I just couldn't match it up. It is an interesting book though. I would recommend it to everyone.

I was sucked in. Definately good for someone who has lost a loved on. One that they took care of.

Aurora Rose has spent a year being a caretaker for her ailing mother who has always dominated her life. When her mother dies, she finds she is unable to leave their 15th floor home for fear of what lies beyound her usual surroundings. Her next door neighboor, Clara was her mother's closest friend and now Aurora's enabler, getting her anything she wants or needs that lies outside of her home. Awakening is the story of Aurora's baby steps as she slowly tries to breakout of her fear and of her need to stay within the walls of her home. The characters are well developed and likeable. I enjoyed this book.

This book was ok. I loved Angela Hunt for years and this is a different genre. Not close to her best.
The Awakening, a psychological fiction book, seems to me to be based somewhat on the premise of Sleeping Beauty and perhaps partially, on Jesus' parable of The Lost Sheep. It is really an interesting novel with complex characters. At times, it takes the reader out of the norm of general reality and into the sub-conscious mind of Aurora Rose Norquest, the main character of the story. At other times, the reader is pulled back into the reality of contemporary, New York City.
This is a fascinating story about a woman in her 30's, who is agoraphobic and very cut off from society, in general, and additionally from the father she has never met. The Awakening documents her small world as she struggles to rectify these omissions in her life.
I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a well-written book that is something a bit out of the ordinary.
