People who like reading Lori Foster's books probably won't like L.L. Foster's books. These are not sweet little romances. Servant is a dark, violent, paranormal story with a romantic subplot. Within that genre expectation, I enjoyed it a lot. I enjoyed the repartee, the jockeying for position, between Luther and Gaby. But then I'm not a Lori Foster fan.

I thought this was an exciting page turner with a street smart yet innocent heroine and a tough but noble good guy hero cop. To me it was pretty clear that Gaby's missions came from God and her uneven knowledge of the world is because she was trained by a priest to be God's warrior. Luther likes her because he can't fully figure her out - a tough street kid constantly using foul language or an innocent who needs help? She's a warrior who can take care of herself physically, yet so alone she's never been on a date. I actually went out and bought the second book in the series because I liked the first so much!

Well written with fascinating characters. The author throws in some complicated words and phrases, not your usual vocabulary....makes it interesting. I'm looking forward to the next one, coming soon!

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE Lori Foster! I just don't know if this was my cuppa. It's probably great, but I think I'm missing it.

Bad! It was really wordy - I think the author tried to use every adjective in the Thesaurus - and not much action. The monsters died w/o much of a fight. The main character Gabby is not very likeable, and I really got tired of her self-pity/loathing and her weak comebacks. I was hoping for maybe a big bang finish, but NOT. It is left wide open for the next one. 2 stars of 5

This book is very strange!

Characters with challenges are very interesting, but the heroine, Gaby, in this book is so deep in a black hole, I couldn't feel much for her but pity, and at times disgust. She is abrasive, hateful, dirty, mean, and that's on a regular day.

On the back of the book Elizabeth Lowell offers: "One of the most intriguing heroines since J.D. Robb's early Eve Dallas." This was hard for me to understand, an avid Eve Dallas fan.

In Robb's books, you know what drives Eve Dallas: Justice!
Gaby, in Servant, comes across as a crazy, pathetic character. At the beginning, the author did not do a very good set up for the why Gaby is like the way she. Not until very late in the book do we get a glimmer of what she is about. I think that is because Foster is writing multiple books for this character's story and wanted to string the reader along.

One reader's opinion!

I have to agree with those who found this book to be bad. A VERY unlikeable main character, and yet the (much older) male lead finds himself inexplicably attracted to her? Really? I found the whole thing to be odd and creepy. I won't be continuing with this series.

This is a good strong story, and it has enough personal interactions to keep it a page turner. It does have some strong language, so beware.

I started reading this because I like Lori Foster and I was looking forward to her taking a different direction in her writing. I was disappointed. I was looking for more cohesion. Every time I picked up the book I was thinking "this will get better" and then I'd think "why am I reading this - I'm not even interested". I finally put it down. I have all three books in the series - I'll be trading all of them away.

Slightly different from the usual Urban-Gothic. The writing isn't bad, but the author is lazy and many things are poorly thought out.

A incorrect description of knife fighting techniques doesn't annoy me much since so many authors fail at that. But to have your heroine deliberately go into combat WEARING FLIP-FLOPS? Or to wear dark colors so 'the blood won't show', but not to think of bringing a change of clothes?

The book's Daemons are more believable than this heroine.

Overall, it was an okay read. I had some issues with the main character and how it felt like the author was over the top in repeating details about her personality. It is interesting enough to make me want to read the next book in the series.

I love Lori Foster but I could not get into this book at all.

I have every one of Lori Foster's books and love them all. This one is way out in left field. I did not like this at all. Not my kind of book. I hope Ms. Foster goes back to writing like she did at the beginning.

Splendid colorful cast of characters which draw a reader in so that you are fully invested in their lives. Mysterious mayhem keeps a reader on the edge of their seat as the knuckle biting page turning adventure unfolds. I can't wait to read the next in the series!!
