When 12 year old Mary and 10 year old Jean float away from a sinking ship, accompanied by a boat full of babies, it looks doubtful that any of them will survive. But these sisters are not easily discouraged, and when they run aground on a deserted island, they wonder if they will ever get back to civilization. A charming book, with enough suspense to create the "I can't put this book down" feeling for a young reader, and is entertaining with enough humor to make this a favorite for eight to twelve year old children. My daughter and I really enjoyed this one!

Children's literature (chapter book) - What would you do if you were shipwrecked with four lively babies in the middle of the ocean? Grades 3-4.

This is the most memorable book from my childhood. It hooked me as a reader. I got in trouble for not getting to the dinner table on time. I stayed up reading under the covers with a flashlight. I ordered a copy once I was an adult and reread it. It's such an innocent book of a different time. I hope my granddaughter will want to read it and find the same joy I did, but in a world of instant communications and so much entertainment I don't know if kids today would enjoy it in the same way.

Shipwrecked! For twelve-year-old Mary Wallace and her ten-year-old sister Jean, floating on the sea in a lifeboat seems more like a dream than reality-actually, more like a nightmare. But they're not the only survivors of the ocean liner, sunk on its way to Australia.

As a little girl, I loved babies! I wanted one of my own so bad (little did I know what I would have been in for). I ended up coming across this book and fell in love with it. I felt so close to the two girls and wished so much that I was in their shoes. It about 2 sisters who are shipwrecked along with 4 babies. They ended up getting stranded on an island where they not only have to fend for themselves but for the little ones as well. No matter what the girls came across they always tried hard and did their best. It really inspired me. I still have my copy from when I was a little girl. Highly recommended!

What would you do if you were shipwrecked with four babies in the middle of the ocean? Mary and Jean aren't botherd a bit. Before long, they are happily settled on a tropical island. There's no problem these two babysitters can't seem to solve alone on their island...
Alone? Then who made those huge footprints in the sand?

My daughter read this book when she was 10 yrs. old, and she really enjoyed it. It is a mystery, with a story line similar to the babysitters club series.
