I really like this book! I fell in love with the main character, Claudia she is so real and dramatic. This book is about a "perfect" marriage until one partner decided they want a baby after they had both decided they were never going to have children. The characters are very memorable and likeable!

Ben and Claudia quickly knew they were soulmates - they could talk for hours, enjoyed each other's jokes and company, and, oh yes, neither one ever wanted children. A match made in heaven until one mind is changed about that baby thing...

Really a very nice study of love, of sacrifice, and of family. I'd recommend it to anyone, even if they typically do not care for chick lit.

I really enjoy Emily Giffin's books, and this one was no exception. This one was definitely more mature than Borrowed or Blue. By the end of the book it has you thinking about marriage in general, and questioning what kind of sacrifices we are willing to make for those that we really love. Emily Giffin has been labeled as a chick lit writer, and while this book has shades of that, it's a lot more. Very good read.

This is her best effort in my opinion. Chick Lit - yes but with wonderfully developed characters and some nice surprises. Fallible, loveable, funny people - a quick read, great for the beach.

She has a real knack for writing about intimacy and insight of her characters. The dialogue is so REAL. I really enjoyed this book. Not just a fluff piece romantic novel. MUCH more.

I was a little disappointed at first because I thought it was a continuation of "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue". But, once I got over that initial disappointment, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Another great read from Emily Giffin.

Initially, the story started out pretty good. It held a lot of promise as I was introduced to two characters that know what they want in life and were fortunate to find their common interests, desires and goals in each other. Unfortunately, this story can never have a happily ever after. So, there really isnt anything to like about this story. As soon as Ben changed his mind about not wanting children, he began to try to manipulate Claudia into changing hers by constantly bringing up the subject. For Claudia, that just increased the stress and tension. She hopes that Ben changing his mind is just a phase. At this point, logic should dictate to one or both of them that their marriage is in serious trouble and they should have gone to a counselor. Instead, they quit communicating, except to fight about having a baby, and from there things get progressively worse. After one particularly ugly evening, Claudia packs her bags and leaves and moves in with her best friend. From there, the impending divorce is just a formality and before I had time to process that they are having serious problems, the divorce is final!

They end up together, obviously, but this book gets the lowest rating because nothing is resolved! Ben still wants children, Claudia doesnt. Im left asking myself WHY GET BACK TOGETHER? Oh, because you love each other and cant to be apart? That didnt stop you the first time from packing your crap and moving out! That didnt stop you from jumping straight into a divorce! So, I ask myself, what could possibly be gained by getting back together now? Claudia hasnt changed her mind about not wanting children, so if she decides to have them because she doesnt want to lose Ben, then that makes her TOO STUPID TO LIVE. If Ben decides he is willing to live without children because he doesnt want to lose Claudia, then hes giving up his dream to be a father and thats always going to be a source of resentment. Its not like they both decided they wanted children and found out they couldnt and then agreed that living without children to save the marriage any damage from the stress of trying was their next step. On such an important issue as whether or not to have children, how can you expect either one to compromise and have a successful marriage? You compromise on the color you will paint the kitchen or the breed of dog you take in or where you will go on vacation, but never on whether or not to have children.

Nothing about this story ends up working for me. What should have happened is when Ben announces he has changed his mind about children, Claudia should have told him that she hadnt and suggested counseling to help them decide where they would go from there. Then we see them trying to work out this major difference and dealing with the obstacles in their way. Then, either Ben would realize it was just a phase and he really doesnt want children or Claudia would change her mind and her biological clock would begin ticking. Either way, it would have been resolved. Nobody would have had to sacrifice anything by compromising. Win-win!

In addition, I didnt like most of the supporting characters. Claudias friend having an affair with a married man who obviously will never leave his wife for her and she should be asking herself, what makes her think that a man who will cheat to be with her wont cheat on her? Her name should have been Cleopatra because she is the Queen of Denial. Then there are Claudias sisters, Maura and Daphne. Maura has the perfect life on the outside. Beautiful children, married to a, hot rich guy, living in a mansion. Its all a fantasy. Hes cheating on her and shes too stupid to live because she is putting up with it. She gets a spine near the end of the book and is no longer a doormat, but for how long? Daphne is desperate for children and her inability to have them makes her a basket case. Things work out for her in the end, but I want to know why they werent trying to adopt all along? I felt like she wasted too much time moaning and boo-hooing about her infertility instead of just looking into adoption sooner. I thought Claudias dad was OK but her mother is a wacko who I could barely tolerate. Most of these people needed a serious slap upside the head, including Claudia and Ben.

Overall, if you like a story with stupid people making bad decisions and then wondering why their lives arent turning out the way they planned, then grab this one. Otherwise, steer clear of this one and go for something else.

While I enjoyed Something Borrowed and Something Blue, this book just falls a little short, considering the weighty subject matter it attempts to handle. I think the journey the main character makes through the book, while necessary, is predictable with an anti-climactic, somewhat circular ending that minimizes the emotional growth you would expect of the characters after what they've been through.

In the tradition of Something Borrowed and Something Blue, I do think it would be interesting to see this story from Ben's side of the equation, now that we've accompanied Claudia on her rollercoaster ride.

I don't recommend this book to anyone who thinks all women should want children. I've noticed some people think the character is "selfish" and "self-absorbed" and other negative terms. She's merely a career-oriented woman who has goals other than reproducing. I really liked the character.

While I enjoyed the story, I hated the ending. It was awful and pretty much ruined the book.

Emily Giffin has an amazing talent of writing a story that you can completely lose yourself in. I could not put this book down, I had to find out what was going to happen between Claudia and Ben. Her character insights are so true of people today and you find yourself questioning the moves and motives of every person in your life too. I absolutely loved this book!

This book hit home with me. This is a story about someone who thinks she knows what she wants in life, along with the man she marries, but then love can take a different turn. Before it's too late, we have to go after what really counts in life and this book told the perfect story.

I really like Emily Giffin's writing style - her "best friend sharing stories" tone - but reading how her main character's resolve slowly dissolves page after page made me nuts. Chick lit and not in a good way, in my opinion...

I love when a person has the courage to stick by their convictions, whether they change over time or not. Regardless, love is worth fighting for, and I love seeing Claudia's character develop over time. I enjoyed the twist w/ Tucker. I also loved the Gift of the Magi tie-in. It's one of my favorite stories. I especially enjoyed Giffin's willingness to candidly delve deep into a topic that is avoided much too frequently, in my opinion, unnecessarily. I could relate to Claudia's struggle on many levels, despite my desire for children, when the time is right. I never grew up focusing solely on having children, but rather, having children would be the icing on the cake if/when I found a man I could trust with not only my heart and soul but theirs as well, understanding my fears based on my tumultuous childhood. We all have our own motivators in life and I love Giffin's exploration of Claudia's.

Bring up a lot of good questions about modern-day marriage. Tradition is just laziness after all. People have the options to follow their values and use theri creativity today. The rules are changing. I woul dimagine that a lot of people can relate to this story and how quickly a marriage can disentigrate.

I very much enjoyed reading Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin, so I read this one right away. It was a good read and I enjoyed it, but I didn't enjoy it quite as much. At times I felt that the character went a bit far in her growth. The main character is pregnant throughout most of the book and does some serious growth during her story. It was mostly believable, but there were moments that didn't completely work for me. All in all, I'm glad I read the book, but it isn't one I will read more than once.

Emily Giffin has written two novels I absolutely adored: Something Borrowed & Something Blue. I thought that I would love this one, but was mildly disppointed with the lack of interest I had with it. The main character I found to be drab and only semi-believable with her quirky relationship to her husband and polar opposite sisters. It was okay, but will try to regain my love for this author in "Love the One You're With..".

Excellent book. I'd read all sorts of 'positives' about her first two books "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue". Wanting something different to read, I saw this on the new books shelf at a favorite retail store, I purchased and 'devoured/read' it. It was a book I enjoyed; NOW I will be looking forward to reading this author's first two book, in the future, more than ever.

I absolutely loved this book, and I completely related to Claudia. I even like the book club questions in the back... There's definitely a quiet stigma on women (like myself) who do not want children. I didn't find Claudia to be sniveling or selfish at all! I also love the supporting cast in this book, and of course, a tiny cameo from one of Giffin's other books... Make sure you can sit and finish the last half of the book! Right at about chapter 20, it's ridiculously hard to put down! An easy, enjoyable read, with a satisfying ending. I immediately passed this on to my best friend, as I have with every other book by this author. :-)

I read this at the beach and on the plane ride home. It's a light, fairly predictable read, but the characters were likeable and interesting enough to propel the reader through the story. The topic interested me as well, as it deals with one woman's struggle with the decision of whether or not to have children. I liked it enough to want to read more of this author's work. (And enjoyed Something Borrowed, but can't get into Something Blue.)

From the author of the smash hits Something Borrowed and Something Blue comes a novel that explores the question: is there ever a deal-breaker when it comes to true love?
First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes . . . a baby carriage? Isnt that what all women want?

Not so for Claudia Parr. And just as she gives up on finding a man who feels the same way, she meets warm, wonderful Ben. Things seem too good to be true when they fall in love and agree to buck tradition with a satisfying, child-free marriage. Then the unexpected occurs: one of them has a change of heart. One of them wants children after all.

This is the witty, heartfelt story about what happens to the perfect couple when they suddenly want different things. Its about feeling that your life is set and then realizing that nothing is as you thought it was--and that there is no possible compromise. Its about deciding what is most important in life, and taking chances to get it. But most of all, its about the things we will do--and wont do--for love.

I really enjoyed this book. I recently "found" this author and have read all 4 of her books that I could find. It took me a while, but I figured out it's because none of her characters are perfect. Everyone has a flaw - just like real people. The story is sad in parts, funny in parts and you really find yourself rooting for all the characters in this book.

This particular issue is a hot-button one for me and I was looking forward to a book where I could relate to the main character, since my husband and I are happily child-free. I wanted to read about a woman who realizes that there is more to life than procreation, and enjoy a story where a marriage isn't defined by the mini-mes that come along. The first 1/3 of the book I truly enjoyed; after that it falls apart until "Claudia" is moping around mired in half-hearted hook-ups and constant second-guesses. Yet another book where women are defined by their uterus. No thanks.

This was a good follow-up to the _Something_ books :). It even gave us an update on what Darcy and Ethan are up too, which was nice. I enjoyed this book. Like the _Something_s, it was definitely floofy reading, but if you need something to read that's not going to depress the heck out of you (which a lot of highly-acclaimed adult literature seems to do...not that this is a bad thing but I like to recover from a particularly harrowing book with something fun) Giffin is definitely for you!

I have read Giffins first two novels and enjoyed them so this one did have to be quite good to keep me satisfied. Well , it wasn't. I powered through the first couple hundred pages only because I love Emily's style of writing but towards the end I truly gave up on her making the main character likable. Plus , the topic in general never really interested me.

I am not sure what I like about Emily Giffin's books. I keep reading her books but half way through I feel unfullfilled. I had high hopes for this book but it was just like the others. Ho hum. I have trouble feeling invested with the characters. The story line is okay but it seems like Im listening to a whiny friend complain about her stupid mistakes. I have trouble rooting for her life to work out. That is exactly how I felt about the two previous books. BUT I must like something about them because I keep reading them. Claudia and Ben are the perfect couple. Successful and happily married they have decided that they don't wish to have children. Things go awry when one of this happy twosome realizes that maybe they do want children after all.

What happens to a couple who make a commitment to each other and one has a change of heart makes for an interesting look at the changes we are and aren't willing to make for love. Without getting to sentimental or strident on either side of the question Giffen presents a funny, poignant and believable look at what makes us choose our paths, and how we rationalize our choices.

All she did was whine about how she didnt want a baby. Disappointing!

I didn't like the fact that the ending was kind of left up in the air. But overall, it was an okay book.

Nonsmoking home; a good weekend or after-work read.

This book is so self-centered. I thought it was ridiculous. I loved the first two books by this author but I thought this book was idiotic and a waste of time. The main character doesn't want kids and she finds a man who doesn't want kids. They marry, he changes his mind and asks her to reconsider and she doesn't. So, she divorces him. I found the plot to be ridiculous and unbelievable and the main character to be whiney and sniveling.
