Babylon's Ark The Incredible Wartime Rescue of the Baghdad Zoo Author:Lawrence Anthony, Graham Spence When the Iraq war began, conservationist Lawrence Anthony could think of only one thing: the fate of the Baghdad Zoo, located in the city center and caught in the war's crossfire. U.S. sold... more »iers had taken the time to help care for the remaining animals, and the zoo's staff had returned to work in spite of the constant firefights. Together the Americans and Iraqis had managed to keep alive the animals that had survived the invasion.Babylon's Ark chronicles the zoo's transformation from bombed-out rubble to peaceful park. The story told in this book demonstrates that one person can make a difference. I very much enjoyed reading about the author's efforts to save the zoo animals in Iraq, and the book was full of likeable humans too. Subtracting half a star because in the acknowledgements he pays tribute to L. Ron Hubbard and confirmed in an interview with The Guardian that he is a Scientologist, and that is weird.
I loved this book! It really is an incredible wartime story of the bravery, initiative, and dedication of one man to try and save the abandoned animals at the Baghdad zoo after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Lawrence Anthony is a man of courage and his intense devotion to animals comes through in this story. I couldnt put it down.
