A very realistic western about a hardened man who confronts his father about why his character is so skewed. He leaves many women behind and marries one but cannot reconcile with her. All the characters in this book leave a lasting impression. Elizabeth Fackler has unusual skill with dialogue and character development. A very absorbing and interesting read.
