A very surprisingly good first novel! And I'm absolutely positive that the author, Harry Dolan, is fond of pretzels. Convolutions wrap around motives like a ball of yarn. Each time the reader thinks 'Aha! I figured it out, another turn of the page unwraps another player with a twisted motive.
The man who calls himself David Loogan is leading a quiet, anonymous life in the college town of Ann Arbor, Michigan. But when he's hired as an editor at a mystery magazine, he's drawn into an affair with the sleek blond wife of the publisher, Tom Kristoll---a man who soon turns up dead
Elizabeth Waishkey is the most talented detective in the Ann Arbor Police Department, but even she doesn't know if David Loogan is a killer, or an ally who might help her discover the truth.
As more deaths start mounting up -- some of them echoing stories published in Gray Streets -- it's up to Elizabeth to solve both the murders and the mystery of Loogan himself

Good 1st effort by Mr. Dolan. A bit different from the typical mystery and a nice read. I'll jump into his next effort as soon as possible.

Mystery was pretty good. It was well-written with lots of turns in the plot and the "who-done-it" finale. Although not yet the writing quality of Patterson, Connelly and certainly not an Alex Cross character, I would read another book by Dolan. Worth the read.

This was a new to me author so wasn't sure what to expect. Lots of twists and turns which kept you on your toes. It always seemed like the characters knew things going on that you didn't which you would expect but the writing made it seem more mysterious. The MC David Loogan is an enigma which I look forward to reading more of.
For those that might want to know - there are a few curse words here and there in the book.

I loved this book! The relationship between the cop and the murderer is sooo creepy but very fascinating. If you are a mystery lover this really puts a different twist on that relationship for any other book I've ever read. I had to get the 2nd book immediately because I was very interested in what would happen next with that. I would highly recommend this book
David Loogan has rented a house in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The house belongs to a professor who is away. We don't know too much about our main character at this point. He is writing and keeps dropping off his work to "Gray Streets", a mystery magazine.
David is hired by Tom Kristoll, the publisher of said magazine as an editor. David quickly becomes involved in an affair with Tom's wife, Laura.
David becomes good friends with Tom and is called one night to come to the office, where an unfortunate circumstance has happened with a murder. David helps Tom take care of the body.
From here, there is murder after murder and many different possibilities of who has killed whom. There are many characters with intertwining stories and much history to learn.
I thought this was interesting, with each character being different, so no confusion about their story. Will definitely consider reading more of Harry Dolan's work.

Meh, this book was entertaining but not extremely challenging. I enjoyed reading it but didn't feel like i took much away from it and forgot it almost immediately.

Author's debut novel and it is a winner. Plenty of plot twists and interesting characters to keep your attention. One murder leads to another and another...how are they tied together and who the suspects are will keep you guessing. There is a sequel coming out that I hope lives up to the strengths of this book.
A very good book with a lot of twist and turns. I'm putting another one of Harry Dolan's books on my wish list.
Wasn't sure about this when I started it but it grabs you from the first and continues to grab you so you won't want to put it down, well written in the terms of keeping something happening on each page to keep you turning the pages.
Already passed on to one of my mystery reading friends.
