A typical Reeman adventure: the good naval officer (in this case a Royal Marine) who doesn't gets the credit, the obnoxious senior(s) who take the credit and get promoted on the good guy's advice and actions; the good guy winning out, and the bad guys either getting found out or killed, and plenty of action. The result is another enjoyable Reeman novel I finished in a day.

This one is different in that it is the first of a 5-part series about the Blackwoods, Marine officers of five generations, whereas all his other novels were single stories.

I don't think Reeman developed the main character as well in this novel. Captain Blackwood seemed shallow, as did a number of his men. Maybe Reeman isn't as comfortable writing about Marines as he is about navy officers.
