I will look for other books by this author, but the level of violence was pretty graphic. This will probably not surprise most readers given that a drug war is mentioned in the blurb, but I was still somewhat taken aback. My absolute favorite part is when the detective directly interacts with the child who witnessed the original accident, but this does not take place until the final disc. Lots of description of the cold, so it was a perfect listen on a hot St Louis day!

Very, very good book; don't care for his Joe Pickett novels at all (too much outdoorsy stuff for this ol' big city bookworm, lol) but really liked this one a lot. Great characters, gritty (and therefore realistic) setting. Hope to see more of Cassie Dewell; finally: a female cop who's not a cleavage-showing, shampoo commercial bimbo! Thanks for the great book, Mr. Box!
