Salty Brown asks the son of an old friend to move into an apartment rent free, and in exchange, watch over and protect his daughter Carol. Tim readily agrees, as he wants to try writing horror stories, and takes a sabatical from the police force. Carol doesn't realize he is there to protect her, and Tim has to subtley provide his help. Tim stands by as Carole's art draws all sorts of people into her life, but he refuses to walk away from her. Even if he has to watch her fall in love with someone else, he will protect her. Until he begins to suspect that Salty arranged for Tim to fall in love with his daughter.
