This was a good story, heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Margarita's strength, courage, and love of humanity allow her to do wonderful things even when she faces terrible consequences. We can all learn a lot from Margarita.

Loosely based historical novel of the life of St. Margaret the barefooted (an actual saint). I enjoyed the book and the reading went by fast.

I'm drawn in by women who've been badly treated and come out ahead in the end. This is one of those books. It's heartwarming and gives you a sense of what women endured when they had no social supports or means of existing outside the realm of marriage or religion. The main character is a strong girl who grows into an even stronger woman after much male abuse.
