I had gastric bypass surgery over 20 years ago in Little Rock, AR. I weighed 248-lbs. I lost 102-lbs. I currently weigh 158-lbs.I attribute the weight gain to getting older (now 54) & more sendentary. The only problematic side affect for me has been anemia. I take a prescription Iron supplement (which is not covered by insurance) but is more very soluable as due to the bypass, I don't absorb Iron easily. I do eat things high in natural iron content. I can eat anything I want, including all types of meats with no purging. I would recommend this type surgery to anyone who is considered morbidly obese. Linda Proffitt Fayetteville, AR |

Baraitric Surgery are also known as Weight Lose Surgery. I had experience with one of them . I have LAP-BAND surgery 2 years ago. I helps me lose weight. I lose my weight up to 30-40% in years. BUt after that we hav to take too much care about our body. We have to change our eating habits. These surgeries have its side effects also and some body did not suit this surgery also so if anyone wants to go for any surgery please take advice of doctor. I am early in the gastric bypass process and nervous as heck. I need to do it to save my health as is really being pushed because my diabetes is resistant to all meds and insulin. For those who have had it done, nothing to be scared of, right?? lol

I will for sure be having one of these surgeries, God willing before this year ends. I've been to 3 seminars already. Since I didn't get the ball rolling after each seminar, different things kept pooping up that led me to another seminar at a different hospital. The issue I struggle with, is this. Which type of surgery to have. I know a couple of people who had the gastric by-pass. They both lost the desired weight and kept it off. The problem they are both experienceing is mal absorbtion of medications. One of the women is in so much pain from her back and pain medication doesn't work the way it does for a person pre surgery. As far as the lap band, I am told different things by so many people. Some for the surgery, some against it. My own doctor, feels the lap band is not the way to go if one needs to lose 100 lbs. She feels its more for 20-3o lbs. Yet I know people have lost and kept off more weight than that. Others have gained back all if not more. I'm so confused, I know I want to committ to a new way of eating once I have weight loss surgery. I just don't want to not be able to take pain meds after, for my back pain. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you, Jan P

Hi all, My husband got a sleeve gastrectomy last month, and just started solid food again this week. He is out walking (playing Ingress on the phone) almost every day and feels great. If anyone wants to compare notes, you can pm me.
