The Battle of Gettysburg: Invaders in Our Town-The Battle of Gettysburg Through the Eyes of Some Who Lived It
The Battle of Gettysburg Invaders in Our TownThe Battle of Gettysburg Through the Eyes of Some Who Lived It Author:James M. Faber Gettysburg and the Battle have fascinated me ever since I first visited it in 1975. I understood then how critical it was to our country's history and it's very existence. I came up with an angle that is different than almost all of the hundreds of books written about the battle. It is written about the real people who had to endure the ordeal w... more »hile they stayed to protect their homes. I did some extensive research and I discovered some extraordinary people who lived in Gettysburg at the time of the battle. And, what they did before and during the battle, I made into a novel I feel is pretty entertaining and fun to read.
My book consists of four parts. It is 432 pages in length and contains current photographs of historical landmarks (mostly the houses of where the character's lived, as they are today).
This book is for those who are experts, those who are learning about it for the first time, and those whose knowledge is somewhere in between. The book also includes some colorful maps, which show the battlefield actions during July 1-3, 1863.
It is written in the style of historical fiction, where most of the characters are real people (as I mentioned before) who lived through the battle. A few are fictional characters I added to create additional drama. I researched these characters to understand what they saw and did, when they did it during the timeline of the book, and then imagined myself standing next to them, experiencing what they experienced, and hearing them talk about it. My goal was to bring them to "life" through the use of much dialog, which is the main way the book is written. It is very historically accurate as I worked with the Adams County Historical Society in Gettysburg, and with the Guided Historic Walking Tours also located in Gettysburg. It is a fun read and I hope you enjoy it, as most have done who have already read it.« less
