I had already read "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" (a truly great book BTW) and wondered if I should spend my time on this one. While 'The Last Stand' covered the battle in more depth, this book brought several fresh ideas to the table.

An easy read for a history book, the author spends time on strategic considerations as well as what the individual sailors experienced.

Probably his best contribution was his concept of why Admiral Halsey did what he did. He also covers the post-war give and take between Halsey and other admirals.

I'm torn between reposting it here, as it is WLed, and keeping it on my library shelves.
