The Upfield Napoleon Bonaparte series give a great feel for the setting of early to mid 20th century Australia but are generally a little weak in plot. Good light read.

I didn't like this one as much as I've liked many of the others.
Unlike a lot of other series, Upfield's Inspector Bonaparte books don't have to be read in sequence. And I haven't done that. About the only character who reappears---aside from "Bony"---is his boss, the Chief Superintendent, and only occasionally. And mostly "Bony" only communicates with him by telegram. In fact, if you look at the listing of the Inspector Bonaparte books on Fantastic Fiction, they are listed chronologically without numbers.
