Another great story from Leslie Gould!

I've come to really enjoy this series and have looked forward to the release of each book. Becoming Bea was no exception, I'm just sorry it is the last book in the series.

I enjoyed the characters and loved reading Bea's story, connecting with her since her personality often reminded me much of my own. Of course, her love of books was something I totally understand.

One of the things that impresses me about Leslie Gould's writing is her ability to draw her readers into the story to such an extent that I was completely sympathetic to Molly in Minding Molly and thought Bea was a bit of a flake, but in Becoming Bea I was on Bea's side all the way and was very annoyed by Molly's incessant bossiness.

Any fan of Amish fiction is going to love Bea and Ben's story of finding your place and finding a love worth sacrificing self for. Don't miss Leslie Gould's 21st century Amish retelling of Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing.

(I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.)

Many of you know that I am not a big fan of the Amish genre. I prefer a good mystery or a historical novel that brings history to life. But, I have read a series where Leslie Gould co-authors with Mindy Starnes Clark so I was ready to give another try at an Amish book. Needless to say, I found this one interesting enough to finish, and actually WANT to finish!! Now I just have to go back and read the others from my library:)

This is the fourth book in the Courtships of Lancaster County series and was a little confusing to come in this far ahead. But I quickly got my characters straight and enjoyed this one from front to back. Beatrice is the main female character, who is the sister of Molly, I believe from a previous book called Minding Molly. There are several other characters who seem to be from this series as well. The guy that Bea has such a hard time with I personally did too. He almost seemed childish at times. But I also understand most young adult men may not be all too mature anyways:) Bea I went back and forth on. She is very shy and unsure of herself at times. I love how she writes in her journal and reads books! It is funny how shy she is around others but when she gets around Ben the two of them fight like crazy! I also enjoyed how she is with the babies. There is sad times and yet overall a joyous gist to this book. Really liked it!!

I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. All thoughts are 100% mine.

About this book:

"Can Bea and Ben Turn Rivalry Into Romance?
Beatrice Zook knows God wants her to learn patience toward others. When assisting a family overwhelmed by triplets proves surprisingly successful, her confidence in dealing with others, both young and old, grows.
One person she'll never be able to find peace with though is Ben Rupp. They've known each other forever, and Ben understands precisely how to antagonize her. What neither she nor Ben will admit is that beneath all their bickering, attraction awaits. When friends decide to try and bring the couple together, will the pair be able to find true love? Or will they damage their relationship beyond repair?"

Series: Book #4 in "The Courtships of Lancaster Country". {I have read #3, "Minding Molly" (review here--old rating system though!), but have not read #1 or #2.}

Spiritual Content- Psalm 143:8 at the beginning; Many Prayers & Silent Prayers over food; "Thank you, Jesus" & "Praise God" are both said a couple times; Talks about God (but the H's aren't capital); A couple of Scriptures are quoted; Bea's Faith becomes stronger in this novel.

Negative Content- Minor cussing including: an idiot' and six forms of stupid'; a curse is said but not written; a mention that a man was stabbed to death in 1593; mentions of hunting (a deer is killed (barely-above-not-detailed); Blood (barely-above-not-detailed).

Sexual Content- a semi-detailed kiss; Noticing (not-detailed); Poetry & Sonnets about Love; Many mentions of nursing babies; Nan says that she "can't image having more children. Of course if that's what God has for us...although at this point it's not like Bob and I even have time to hug each other, let alone.." she laughs & says she's balling; Don's a flirt; a man tries to force himself on Bea (barely-above-not-detailed); Molly tells Bea that she's "the most chaste person I know."; Love, falling in love, trying not to fall in love, & the emotions.

My personal Rating- Three Stars (and a half)

What I really liked in "Minding Molly" and now in "Becoming Bea" was that the main character really grows in their Faith and outlook on people. That was neat! At first the rivalry between Bea & Ben was cute--it reminded me a bit of "With Every Breathe" by Elizabeth Camden, but one Amish, one Historical.
