On the back cover: Georgie Kennedy is so mad she could spit. Just weeks after she sold one of her Arizona gold claims to Cougar Barnes, some two-bit lawyer has the gall to tell her the mine wasn't hers to begin with. Georgie knows her rascally grandpa is behind the whole mess -- and that she'd better high-tail it to Chicago to set him straight. Should be simple enough. She's wiped the floor with men twice her size. How much trouble can one old coot be?
...Plenty, that's how much. Grandpa could give a mule lessons in sutbborn -- and he's hell-bent on turning "Miss Georgia" into a petticoat-wearing, curtsying priss. He tells her that if she stays on in Chicago for exactly one year -- and makes nice with the strait-laced simpleton he wants her to wed -- the claim will be hers, free and clear. Now, getting hitched is just about the last thing on Georgie's mind. But between her unwanted suitor and Cougar Barnes, who comes all the way to Chicago to make sure he gets his property back -- and to check on Georgie -- she has a lot of thinking to do. And soon she has to decide if her heart belons in teh bit city...or at home on the range.

Georgie Kennedy is so mad made she could just spit. Just weeks after she sold one of her Arizona gold claims to Cougar Barnes, some Chicago lawyer tells her the mine wasn't her to sell. Her rascal grandpa is behind this mess & she goes to Chicago to set him straight. She finds the old coot can outmaneuver her & he's bent on turning her into a petticoat-wearing, tea-drinking society girl. If she'll give him & Chicago a year, he'll give her the claims. She finds that heiress girls get proposals, some welcome & some not but she wants what she thinks ain't quite suitable for a Chicago society girl so where does her heart belong - in Chicago with a gorgeous hunk of a rich fellow or back in Arizona Territory where she's her own woman & nobody tells her when, how when it comes to working her gold claim. She's a steel magnolia of the first order. And it's a truly fun read.
LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHIG!!!

I picked this book because I have been to Prescott, AZ a few times, but it turns out I really liked the story. It is sometimes a bit preachy on the women are just as good as men theme, but overall is a fun read and a good story about discovering yourself.
I have to admit for a romance novel, I wasn't always sure which suitor she was going to end up, it is realistic in the ability to react to more than one man.

Georgie Kennedy is finally moving up a bit in life. She's sold one of her gold claims to her good friend, Cougar Barnes, and bought a little house in Prescott, Arizona. Unfortunately, her grandfather in Chicago informs her that the claim was not hers to sell and insists that she come to Chicago to settle the matter. He plans for her to marry a good friend's son to cement their pending business merger, which is plenty upsetting because Georgie happens to be one of the most ornery, cussing, dead-eye shots in Arizona Territory. When she finds out that her grandfather intends to turn her into a proper lady, only the thought of making things right with Cougar induces her to agree. What follows is a thoroughly enjoyable read as Georgie attempts to fit into society and juggle one man who thinks she's a "graceless Amazon" with another who thinks she's one of the boys. Both fall under Georgie's spell, as will Carmichael's happy readers.
A really fun book with wonderful characters
Another delightful story by Emily Carmichael with a little Western history tossed in. A young woman is coerced into going to the big city by her grandfather and almost makes the mistake of her life but true love (always!) wins.
