I have liked all of Anne Frasier's books, particularly HUSH -- great character development and forward momentum. BEFORE I WAKE is the first of the post-HUSH novels that really had me hooked from beginning to end though. I think a lot of it has to do with the ease in which i was able to identify with Arden, the main character -- I get where she's coming from and she doesn't feel flat and two-dimensional like a lot of thriller novel protagonists. It did take me a little while to get used to the idea of mind bleaching, it seemed a little far-fetched for me at first, but I quickly found myself buried in the story. It definitely helps that Frasier's writing is clever and funny, even in the scariest of situations. Anyway, it's really a well-written book and more importantly, a fun read from beginning to end.

This is the first time I have read this author. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading others by her. This is a quick and easy read.

The Amazon reader reviews gave a very high rating for this book, but I thought the plot was highly contrived, it really dragged in places, and I wasn't really very interested in the characters or the plot.

Looking for more of her books! Excellent read ... Psychological thriller ...romance ...and an ending that will blow you away!
Great suspense story. Arden is a former FBI profiler trying to solve the mystery surrounding her parents murder. Twists and turns at every corner. Did Arden actually kill her parents? Who can she trust? I didn't want to put this one down!
This was a fast read for me. It was good but not her best.
a good fast read.
Arden was an FBI profiler before everything went wrong; before her parents were murdered by the killer she was trying to stop. She completely closed herself off and ran. She went to a small town where no one knew anything and she could be someone else for a while. Dr Harris had tried to help her forget those horrible memories by a process called Bleaching but it didn't work. Arden forgot some of the good stuff along with the bad.
Now she wasn't sure what was real and what wasn't. Then the man responsible for the murders was executed and she thought it was over until Agent Fury showed up. He said he got a letter from the killer saying he didn't kill her parents. The killer is still out there and copycatting the original murderer's MO. Agent Fury wanted her to come back to the program, project TAKE (Through a Killer's eyes), designed to help the agents get into the mind of the killer using solitary confinement and sensory deprivation. She had to go even though she hated the place. She had to find the murderer and stop him.

Suspense book...good beach book.
Found this book in the seat pocket in a plane. I started the book and couldn't get into it. My friend read it and LOVED it. Said the book had lots of plot twists and was a good suspense read.
Contemporary thriller/romance
Anne Frasier if one of my new favorite authors. Her books are great thrillers!
Started off a little slow for me but once it got rolling, I wouldn't rest until I finished the book.
Quite a good book
Intriguing and suspensful. The main character, criminal profiler Arden Davis, is very sympathetic.
good mystery/thriller-fast read.
another great suspenseful story from Anne Frasier. An experiment gone bad is only the beginning
Ex-FBI agent, Arden Davis is still haunted with memories of her parents savage murders by a serial killer, since put to death. Even after his death, his gruesome work is being carried out by his "apprentice" and the murdering continues.
Arden's mind was "bleached" by a highly controversial method, to rid her of the nightmares she continued to have, reliving the finding of her parents bodies and she won't rest until she finds out the truth about their deaths.
It's really difficult to write a short review of this very complicated story. You just need to read it for yourself:)

Good story mixing mystery and (mild) sci-fi. Very suspenseful!!!
'Ann Frasier delivers thoroughly engrossing, completely riveting suspense." "Caught between dreams and reality. She awakens to a living nightmare. The murder, it turns out, is still on the streets."
I didn't read the book.
