I read this book years ago, but still remember it because it was so good. It's the story of God's only begotten daughter. It's about faith more than religion. Worth reading.
Second Coming satire.
A satire on religion - Jesus' sister is born to a bachelor Jew in New Jersey...
Winner of the World Fantasy Award & recipient of a rave NY Times review (reasons I bought it)- but I have to admit I really wasn't very into this one.... just not my thing, I think.

This was an odd book. It was set in New Jersey, so I could realate to placement at least. No wonder they made a Weird NJ book!
The opening chapter introduces Murray, an involuntary celibate and monthly sperm donor. He gets called back to his donor bank in question of his last deposit, it is found to have more than his sample, but an ovum too. Well you know what a doctor wants to do, put the thing under a micrscope and cut into it. Murray though, well he gets a different idea in his head.
So I borrowed this book from Nikki, and have to admit, I was a little skeptical. It took me a while to get into it. The books is split into three parts and the first part did nothing for me, but I made myself hang in there- and thank goodness i did! The second and third parts were so worth the wait. I dont know how to describe the story without giving everyhting away, but pretty much its about a mand who donates his sperm and it produces a baby- without an egg or a mother. From this "miracle" comes a little girl, supposedly the daughter of God, and the book is about her life and what she goes through. I love the third part, which takes place in the future. I like books that show us how we are through exaggeration, but its like- yeah- its over the top, but is it? How far are we from that? great book!
Funny, satiric, offensive to those who wish to be offended. An Award winner.
