Being Logical is a brief and highly readable introduction to the subject of logic. The first two thirds of the book discuss the basic principles of logic and arguments. The argument section is the most technical in that it does have a few symbols, but in every case McInerny gives "English translations" for what he shows in symbols. The last section of the book is devoted to how to recognize illogical arguments. Although important, I found this section to be bit drawn out, and it had some editorializing (aimed mostly at politicians) that seemed out of place in this book. That minor critique aside, McInerny's slim volume is a excellent introduction to the subject of logic for the layperson.
