Absolutely great story. While the "whodunit" part was easy to figure out, the rest of the story more than makes up for it. The plot was strong and the range of emotions that the characters go through was very realistic.

Another good book from Nicholas Sparks. Of course it's a tale of love with a twist, and the twist is one we don't find out about until nearly the end. I'd have liked to seen him go on a further with the hero and heroine at the end of the book, but I guess that is what my imagination is for.

If you loved the movie Notebook which is written by Nicholas Sparks you will love this book also. His writing is a true treasure.

Miles Ryan's life seemed to end the day his wife was killed in a hit and run accident two years ago. As deputy sherriff of New Bern, North Carolina, he not only grieves for her and worries about their young son Jonah but longs to bring the unknown driver to justice. Then Miles meets Sarah Andrews, Johnah's second grade teacher. A young woman recovering from a difficult divorce, Sarah moved to New Bern hoping to start over. Tentatively, Miles and Sarah reach out to each other... soon they are falling in love. But what neither realizes is that they are also bound together by a shocking secret, one that will force them to reexamine everything they believe in
including their love.

This is another good book, like all his stories. However, I did not like how it ended. He went into detail in the beginning and through the middle. But, once all is revealed, it just kind of comes to a quick end with not nearly enough information. It was as if he had a limit on the pages and had to abreviate the end. This could go on further into the story, easily.

Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors.. A Bend in the Road didn't fully draw me in like his other books do because of the character Missy. Missy is the mother of Jonah who, in a hit-and-run accident, passes away. I was preoccupied with her character for most of the book because I myself am a mother.

The book does have a twist of fate for the characters Miles and Sarah and overall A Bend in the Road doesn't disappoint. It's a must read for any Nicholas Sparks fan.

I could not put this book down. I kept trying to solve the mystery of the wife that was killed. It was nice that Miles(the husband) showed soooo much emotion as well. This was my 1st Nicholas Sparks read and now I've already read 'At first sight' and I just finished 'Message in a Bottle'. I'm one of those people that looks at the picture and tries to discern the storyline, this took me on dips and turns throughout the story, and had a surprising end.

Miles life seemed to end the day his wife was killed in a hit-and-run accident. He still rises each morning to take care of his young son and carries out his duties as deputy sheriff of New Bern, North Carolina, but its all in a numb and hopeless haze. Then Miles meets Sarah Andrews, who is rebuilding her own life. Slowly, their newfound love starts to soothe the pain of the past. But when a devastating secret is revealed, they start questioning everything they ever believed in. Sparks previous hardcover, The Rescue (Warner Books, 9/00), was a #1 New York Times bestseller and remained on the list for 14 weeks. It has 912,000 hardcover copies in print. A New York Times hardcover bestseller for 56 weeks and paperback bestseller for 58, Nicholas Sparks debut novel, The Notebook (Warner, 1996), has over three million copies in hardcover and paperback print combined. The film rights have been optioned by New Line. Message in a Bottle has more than 2.5 million copies in hardcover and paperback print combined, and was a New York Times bestseller for a total of 33 weeks in all. The 1999 film starred Robin Wright Penn and Kevin Costner. A Walk to Remember (Warner, 10/99), which has more than 2.5 million copies in combined print, was an instant New York Times bestseller in both hardcover and paperback. Denise DiNovi (Message in a Bottle, Heathers, Practical Magic) of Warner Bros. will produce the film, which is currently in development.

Last week, I was on Spring Break (I am a teacher). I vowed to myself that I would read an entire book since lately all I have been reading are textbooks or my kids' work. This book was EXACTLY what I needed! Not only did it include "heart-wrenching" romance but it also had a mystery spin included. This is a must read for romance lovers!

This book initially drew me in but quickly caused me to lose interest. While I cannot say that I definitely know how this book ends, I have a fairly good idea that I figured it out early on. After having read many other reviews of this book, I have come to the conclusion that it probably ends the way I think. While this alone was not the reason I quit reading, it does keep me from ever wanting to finish the book. What caused me to lose interest was how dry the story line was. I know many people are huge Nicholas Sparks fans, but I am not one of them. I think his books are rather amateurish at best. This one was definitely not worth my time.

Don't get me wrong, it was OK, I read it through, but it wasn't one of those books that called to be read at 4am with droopy eyelids. It was predictable. Sweet, accessible, uplifting and predictable, the latest love story from Sparks (The Notebook) leaves the reader with just one burning question: Why is this consummate beach book being published in the fall? The nearly thwarted but eventually triumphant romance of deputy sheriff Miles Ryan and second-grade teacher Sarah Andrews goes down as easily as marshmallow fluff and offers about as much real nourishment. Miles's high school sweetheart, Missy, was killed in an unsolved hit and run accident, leaving him to raise their son, Jonah, in New Bern, N.C. Sarah's politically ambitious husband, Michael, dumped her when her ovaries proved inactive, and she fled to New Bern to teach, and love, other people's kids. Miles and Sarah meet at a parent-teacher conference, and the sparks fly. But there's a fly in the ointment as well; an italicized voice threaded among the happy chapters alerts us that Missy's death was caused by someone whose identity, if revealed, could destroy Miles and Sarah's newfound joy. In Sparks's heaven, clouds exist to make silver linings look the brighter. As tough truth shadows their landscape, Miles and Sarah find depths within themselves, and their rekindled light illumines all. New Bern becomes a city of the reborn. Charlie Curtis, Miles's stickler boss, learns to bend; Missy's aimless killer morphs into a healer; and Jonah once again knows a mother's love. The opposite of edgy, with simple sentences and soft-pedaled sex, Sparks's plain vanilla morality will doubtless sell like ice cream on a steamy day.

Nicholas Sparks keeps the reader guessing as the story unfolds. Just when you think you've got it all figured out - another twist and you're back to can't put it down until you find out the ending. A great read, wonderful story of love and heartache.

Miles Ryan's life seemed to end the day his wife was killed in a hit-and-run accident two years ago. Missy had been his first love, and Miles fervently believes she will be his last. As a deputy sheriff in the North Carolina town of New Bern, Miles Ryan not only grieves for Missy, but longs to bring the unknown driver to justice.

Then Miles meets Sarah Andrews. The second grade teacher of his son, Jonah, Sarah had left Baltimore after a difficult divorce to start over in the gentler surroundings of New Bern. Perhaps it is her own emotional wounds that make her sensitive to the hurt she first sees in Jonah's eyes, and then his father's. Tentatively, Sarah and Miles reach out to each other. Soon they are both laughing for the first time in years...and falling in love.

Neither will be able to guess how closely linked they are to a shocking secret-one that will force them to question everything they ever believed in...and make a heartbreaking choice that will change their lives forever.
