Tooo.....something...the characters were too over the top...too stupid...not sure what. Just didn't like it much. Didn't grab me even once. How's that?

Good read. Full of suspense, romance, mystery, and some supernatural all mixed together to make a fun read.

How did this book get such good reviews?
The story takes place in 1990's New Orleans but flashes back to the 1800's. Shannon Drake did tons of research about serial killers, Jack the Ripper, and vampire lore which she recounts to us in pages upon pages of rather boring dissemination. Yes it all eventually ties together but it just isn't that interesting to read. Moreover, it doesn't further to story or the relationship between hero and heroine, neither of whom are ever really developed as characters.
The romance just didn't grab me. I liked the characters but the were in love too quickly, they didn't spend much time getting to know each other.
There was a lot of sex in the book but the scenes were brief and not explicit at all.
In summary we have a vampire romance with little romance, nothing steamy, and too much exposition on serial killers.
To me, not a great start to a series.

I really liked this book because the main character was a female vampire, which you don't read about very often (first time for me). It was refreshing to ge a female perspective instead of a damsel falling for a guy vampire----Enjoyed it very much. I'll definitely look for book number 2.

I though the Beneath A Blood Red Moon was very good book. It did drag at some points but otherwise it was really well written. I was worried that it would be another "one of those" books that takes place in New Orleans but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a great introduction to the characters that are apart of her Vampire series. I would like to hope that in the rest of the series I will see more of Maggie and Sean in the other books.
I even liked the cultural tie in with the Jack the Ripper tie and also Civil War. I felt it really worked and it put an interesting spin on things. If you are looking for a new series start...then give this one a try.

a good book about vampire's. and romance. maggie montgomery was shocked to learn about the mysterious beheading of a local street person, and the trail of blood that led from the corpse to her building.
Great book!! I look forward to reading more from Shannon Drake!
Maggie Montgomery, the owner of Magdalena's, an elegant New Orleans boutique, was shocked to learn about the mysterious beheading of a local street person, and the trail of blood that led from the corpse to her building. Her shock turned to turmoil when she met Sean Canady, the police officer who arrived to question her... and inspires a dangerous desire. Something powerful - and beyond reason - had brought Maggie and Sean together. Something that spoke of an interwoven past, and a passionate torment that began generations before under a blood red moon. For on the night, over a hundred years ago, disturbing events occurred within the Montgomery family, and now Maggie must begin a quest to find the one man whose love was pure enough to save her from the darkness within.
good female vamp story!
good female vamp story!
Maggie Montgomery is owns a clothing boutique in the heart of the French Quarter. This is a special store since it has been in her family for generations. There has been a horrid murder in the French Quarter and there are blood drops found outside her backdoor literally. This leads NOPD detective Sean Canady to her doorstep investigating to investigate this beauty in connection to the blood drops found outside. Maggie is stunned and agrees to help in any way possible. Sean is totally drawn to Maggie in a way that he can't understand and begins to pursue the reluctant lady despite the misgivings he has that she is holding something back.
Maggie has secrets that she is not willing to share, she is a vampire. Needless to say Maggie is away of a past that she and Sean (Sean is an old soul as well) share, as well as the return of an enemy that means to destroy all that she has managed to create. She finds herself drawn to Sean and eventually falls in love with him. She still feels bad about keeping a part of her past from the sexy Sean, and her past may have a connection to the murders that are now plaguing the French Quarter. She may know who is performing the frightening "Jack The Ripper" type murders but is unable to prevent them. See the murder may be another vampire. Eventually Maggie must confront not only her past, but love and trust Sean enough to tell him the truth about her in order to help him catch a killer.

This is Shannon Drake's first vampire novel. I thought the story line was good- very interesting, but it left me with a few questions in the end (how does a 150 year old vampire suddenly become mortal - because she found her 'true love'?)
A wonderfully romantic vampire love story.
Shannon Drake is a great author and her work that involves historical or paranormal storylines is the best in my opinion. This is a paranormal book and a must have for any of her fans.
I loved this book!!It was the first book by Drake I ever read. I liked that the heroine was the Vampire. There are some typos in this story but not enough to bog down the book. It is a great start to her books. Intersting till the end.
1st in series about vampires. Good read - I'm now trying to get the rest in series.
great read for Shannon drake/heather graham fans give a bit of background character info for her latest book Dust to Dust
I always enjoy Shannon Drakes books on vampires. Her characters are so real.
