Lady Jasmine, her husband James Leslie, and Lady Fortune arrive in Ulster where Jasmine hopes to find a suitable husband for Fortune. Aside from this, Fortune is due to inherit Maguires Ford, an estate where Protestants and Catholics peacefully live togetherif she marries a Protestant.
William Devers seems a likely candidate for a husband. But his mothers overpowering prejudice against Catholics and her schemes to expel them from Maguires Ford cause Fortune to pause before making the wedding arrangements.

This was not as good as other Small books. I was somewhat disappointed with the predictable plot and bog down of details in scenery.

Although not one of her best I enjoyed this book. Having read the entire series the characters feel like old friends. it is always fun to connect with friends after years have passed....a reunion of sorts. As a geneology buff, who loves living in NE for its history, I learned a great deal from this book about the way life might have been for many of my ancestors who came from this part of the world, and were the foundation of this great country we enjoy today.
Not as good as her earlier books. However, I would say it is usual romance quality, I just typically consider her books above average. It is important to read this one if you are going on to the next book in the series as it involves the birth of Jasmine's last child, which is the main character in the next book.
