Well-written and gives a great view of the time period and events. At times it seemed a bit more a biography of Harry S. Truman, but still insightful into both Harry and Bess. Also, very interesting viewing American history from an "insiders" view during WWII.

A tender love story and an American portrait.

Wonderful book. I think Truman was one of our best presedents but knew very little about his private life until I read this book. Well written and a good read.
Bess W Truman is more than a rare, intimate, and surprising portrait of a famous First Lady who kept her deepest feelings-and considerable influence on President Truman-hidden from public view. It is also a heartwarming story of an enduring love and a remarkable political partnership.
Such a great book. I was born around the time Truman was President, so everything in this book was new to me. Harry was also a Mason, and my hubby and I have been involved in Masonry/Eastern Star for 35 years. It is well told by their daughter Margaret. Small details about their lives from the very first time they met to the day both died. It's a large book, but so good you will not put it down.
Margaret Truman presents an aspect of her parents' life with clarity. She admits to favoring her father, but over time learns to understand and appreciate her mother . Most of all she demonstrates how two people from entirely different backgrounds can love each other while accepting the hardships these differences create.
