This is a fantastic book of short stories by the master of the macabre. It is full on facinating stories that although aren't all that creepy and scary now, are still wonderful in their historic nature of what used to be terrifying.

My first foray into HP Lovecraft. Writing style is something to get use to and the vocabulary is advanced. Once I got past the first few stories things started to flow. Loved the stories. This is not your blood and guts horror, its cleaner and more descriptive. Definitely creepy and the imagination behind the stories is great. Lovecraft builds a lot of the stories around a small town in New England that leaves an air of melancholy. I'm going to read the Dream Cycle next.

It seems that whenever I see a particularly interesting movie, it is "based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft," so I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about. After reading this book, I'd have to agree that Lovecraft is, "Twentieth Century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale."

I must advise, however, that these stories don't fall under the Easy To Read category. Long, flowery descriptions - with words from the Advanced Vocabulary list - could possibly slow you down. But don't let this deter you from reading some of the creepiest stories you'll ever lay your eyes upon!
