The author's selection of the best of her own short stories, with a short autobiographical introduction. Contains several early stories from when she was first developing her idea of the Terran Empire (related to, though not all fully consistent with, the Darkover books), as well as two Darkover stories and the initial Lythande short story. A must for any MZB completist, and a pretty good read for anyone who likes her work.

A writer best known for her MISTS OF AVALON and the Darkover series now comes along with this collection.
She writes SF and fantasy, but is frequently concerned with social issues in which societies are in conflict and where there are no simple solutions. She is also often concerned with the implications of sex roles and sex role stereotyping. Her work is well-crafted and thought-provoking as well as extremely unusual and interesting.
This is the best of her short fiction consisting mainly of stories never before available in book form.
Some of the titles included are:
Centaurus Changeling The Wild One
The Climbing Wave Treason of the Blood
Exiles of Tomorrow The Jewel of Arwen
Death Between the Stars The Day of the Butterflies
The Wind People Hero's Moon
To Keep the Oath (a Tarma and Kethri tale)
