Oh my goodness, Edna is getting married. In the meantime, Edna's intended and Andy Carpenter find a hand in the snow. Before long, Andy is knee-deep in a mystery. Patterson's mayor is dead, and Vince (newspaper editor and pal of Andy) wrings Andy's arm to defend his protege, a young journalist who lost his job for exposing the mayor. When the proof was disproven, the young man lost his job. Now, there's proof that the journalist killed the mayor for revenge.
The recurring characters are like old friends; they are a joy to hear from again. With Andy's wise-cracking and the team in action, things are happening in Patterson. Since Christmas lasts at the Carpenter house for four months, Andy seems less upset about escaping the holiday madness and taking on a case. This book was pure fun. As usual Grover Gardner reads with his own great style. He is one of my favorite readers.
