Eleanor Becket, the reserved, crippled oldest daughter of the Beckett clan, has resigned herself to being a spinster and simply mooning over her father's friend Jack Eastwood from afar. But when Jack comes to her father with a plan to ferret out the leader of the Red Men Gang of smugglers, she volunteers to pose as his wife to ease his entree into London society in order to ensnare the earl of Chelfham, whom they believe to be the Red Men's leader. But Eleanor has her own agenda and secrets, kept even from her father, and it becomes a deadly juggling of lies and half-truths to keep her father's secrets from Jack, as well as her own. As the attraction between them grows, can trust blossom as well in time for them to work together to defeat their enemies?
The third in this excellent Romney Marsh series is as entertaining as its predecessors, and reveals a little more of Ainsley's past and the enemy only hinted at in the background of the first two books, the one responsible for the Beckets' need to flee their island home and establish new identities in Romney Marsh. It certainly teases the reader and makes one eager for the next installment, to learn more not just about each Becket's story but also about the larger story behind the family.

I read the first of this series some time ago. I was intrigued with the group and had to go back and read the first again before picking this up. This was fun and it went in directions that were unexpected. I am looking forward to more and have the next book in my TBR pile.

1813 England. The Beckets of Romney Marsh - protecting their neighbors' smuggling efforts with their Black Ghost Gang - securing the area and operating in peace for 2 years. Then an alliance is formed between the oldest Becket daughter and a business associate - to pose as man and wife in order to bring down the vicious Red Men Gang who are terrorizing the area.
this book is set in Romney Marsh,Eleanor is forced to risk her family, her chance at love, even her life, in one desperate gamble
Adopted daughter is dedicated to her family but needs some excitement in her life. Decides to engange in an adventure to save her family
A good follow-up to "A Gentleman By Any Other Name" & "The Dangerous Debutante". With each book, another secret is given up by the interesting family that inhabits Romney Marsh. This one is about the fragile-looking (but made of steel) Eleanor.

I believe this is the third book in the Beckets of Romney Marsh series. Eleanor is the dedicated adopted daughter, quiet and fragile
with a pronounced limp. Upon meeting Jack Eastwood Eleanor gambles
her life, her family secrets and perhaps her life for the change of
love.

Be sure to read these in the proper order; jumping in midstream does not add to the enjoyment of the story. The genre is romantic suspense.
Jack Eastwood comes to the Becket island seeking help with the Red Men Gang, who are affecting their nocturnal activities. When adopted daughter Eleanor hears that they are going after three men, including the Earl of Chelfham, she demands that she be allowed to go as the fake spouse to Jack.
The reader is not initially aware of the relationship Eleanor has with the Earl of Chelfham. However, as the pages fly by it becomes obvious why Eleanor wants to get some closure with the illusive Earl. Interesting plot line.
