This book was a dissappointment. It dragged on forever, only giving the reader two hot, romantic scenes, that were no where near what Emma Holly is capable of writing. I am very grateful that I have read many of Ms. Holly's books in the past, and know she is still one of my favorite authors, omitting this one.

This book was such a disappointment. The characterization was flimsy, the romance scenes were shallow and ridiculous, and the story was just plain dumb. I won't be reading any more Emma Holly books.

Emma Holly is known for writing erotic fiction. Beyond Innocence is not as graphic or steamy as her contemporary erotic fiction but is still a good read. As a reader of historical romance, this book is reasonably well written. However if your aim is more for historical romance, this story emphasizes the relationship and the chemistry between the H/H more than the time period. Some of the other reviews say it is terrible, I think if you read Loretta Chase or Lisa Kleypas regularly, this book will not be to that standard. But having read a lot of historical fiction, this is fun because it is more focused on the sexual interaction of the main characters and the relationship between two brothers. Some things seemed a bit unbelievable in the time period (e.g. easy acceptance of a gay character) but I read Emma Holly for the hot romance, not historical accuracy.

The story was a little slow going at first, but after a couple of chapters it picked up and I was hooked. In addition to the steamy love scenes, there's also some good laughs and a little heartache. The characters and plot were well-written and I thought this was another great book by this author.
I like Emma Holly and snap up all her books. She really develops her female characters and builds the sexual tension.
You just can't go wrong with Emma Holly.
Wow. Definitely worth the read. This one was actually on the keeper pile, and then a friend gave me a second copy. Highly recommended.

One of Emma Holly's best stories.
This is a traditional 1800's romance - not what I expected from Emma Holly after reading Cooking Up a Storm and Velvet Glove.
