This is a beautifully illustrated children's book about death and dying that is wonderful for people of all ages. It tells the story of a grandmother who crosses over "beyond the ridge" where she sees many loved ones who wait to welcome her. The spirit world is beautifully illustrated and described. Her loved ones who are left behind on Earth take solace in the fact that grandmother's spirit had a good journey and her death is part of the natural cycle of nature. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This Native American tale about a woman who dies, is truly a unique story in that part of the story is told from her point of view and part is told by those who are left behind. The reader follows the woman along her journey to the Spirit World where she finds great happiness. Then the reader follows along with her family as they go through the process of grieving and preparing for her funeral. The story tells how each of us is given a spirit at birth which will never die. The story ends, "Death? There is no death; only a change of worlds." Really a very wonderful, insightful story to introduce young children to dying, death, the end of a life's journey and what lies beyond.
