Without spoilage, the series is about Cherijo Grey Veil, a talented human surgeon fleeing the reach of her powerful father who has plans for her and wants her back with him. In this book, along with Cherijo's usual critical medical emergencies and trying to get along with other staff members who may not like her, there is a much bigger problem - a murderer on the ship who begins to target Cherijo in disturbing ways and this is the focus of most of the plot. Even though this is science fiction, its not hard sci fi. So far in the three books I've read from Viehl I've started to expect a certain constantly good wrap-up to her books. She has a way of making things complicated and then writing herself out of the knots. It's very comforting that even though this is a series, it feels like each book has a relatively satisfying ending.

S.L. Viehl is one of my top 10 authors and I love this series.

Love the storyline. Some of the dialog & characters' actions seems a little strange and unbelievable at times, but not enough to detract from the overall "feel" of the story.
The second book is as good as the first!
While I really like this main character, at times she is inconsistant in her personality. Sometimes she is very mature and others very immature. The plots are well written and interesting. I plan on reading the next book in the series and hope the character is more mature and makes better judgement calls that aren't so childish at times.
Excellent--Viehl is one of my new favorite authors and I'm in the process of reading the whole series. (her book reminds me of McCaffrey/Moon books) This book has Dr Torin working on the ship Sunlace as the Senior Healer. She end up forced into an engagement with one person while she loves another. She's stalked by someone on board who has engineered a way to use the entire ship as an internal weapon. Meanwhile the League is trying to capture her and they don't care who they eliminate that gets in the way. Very surprise ending too!
Part of a long series, kept my interest.
This series is not only well written but refreshing. Too few women are given the credit for honor--our traditional meaning--and courage.
This book is a continuation of the Stardoc series. Not a heavy science fiction but something I enjoyed reading. The characters are further developed in this book.
You MUST read this book. Excellent as all the Stardoc books are with great characterization and world building. Don't miss this series. I have given copies to all my friends who enjoy or are willing to try Sci-Fi. She writes under the name Lynn Viehl as well but as much as I like her other books these are the ones I love. I have come back to this series again and again.
I really liked it. Such an interesting concept for a series. It is a good follow-up to the first novel Stardoc and leaves you with a cliffhanger, dying to read the next book.
Very good. Love this whole series. Not my favorite, but still good.
Dr. Cherijo is living the perfect life-if you think that finding out you're a clone, then being declared "non-sentient" by your father/creator is your idea of perfect.
Things could be worse. But when the Human League comes after her, with bounty hunters of every race trying to bring her in, Cherijo figures it can't get any worse...
Until someone begins stalking her dreams.
